Being a wedding photographer I have had the opportunity to be a part of many special days for couples. Being behind the scenes has allowed me to give my clients helpful tips when planning the big day and I would like to share some of those here! I always meet with clients a few months prior to a wedding date to get a better understanding of where they are at in the planning process. This helps me understand my role better and how I might be able to make the experience better. 1. Plan Ahead!
Couples who wait till the last minute to start planning usually find themselves much more stressed than those who don't. Many venues and wedding professionals are booked over a year out which means you shouldn't wait! Venues are by far the hardest part to secure and should be used to base all other bookings. 2. Get your hair and make up practiced in advance Although many may see this as an unnecessary additional cost you will rest assure knowing you are already in love with your look for the day! With this in mind I always advise ladies to not try any crazy new looks on their wedding day. A new shade of eye shadow you have never worn before may seem like a good idea but you should always keep in mind you may look much different in photos. Most makeup artists are aware of what to do for the best photo look but verbalizing your concern to them may not be a bad idea! 3. Know where to splurge and where to DIY "There are only two things you keep from your wedding day: the vows & the pictures." It may seem a ittle bias but your photos are the only physical way you will be to look back on your special day, so choose wisely! A great photographer will be able to capture the really special moments you may not have even thought about. 4. And Finally, Have Fun! Planning a wedding shouldn't be stressful and if it becomes that way take a step back and do whatever you can to reduce it. That might mean hiring a day of coordinator or assigning tasks to your bridesmaids so that you can focus on more important matters. You might even be able to ask your photographer to help out with certain things. During my time at wedding I have been a planner, a make up artist, a veil holder and many other things! Find people who are willing and able to help make your day amazing!
